Daniel Lambert’s Trousers is a new, innovative Multi-Media Play with Live Music featuring songs about characters and events from Leicester history conceived and written by singer songwriter and former stand up comedian Skatz.
The play was due to open at The Y Theatre Leicester in 2012, then tour around village halls and theatres across Leicestershire and beyond. However, after much planning, preparation and filling in of 2 sets of funding applications, the project has been put on hold for the foreseeable future.
(Scroll down for more details)
In September 2011 Skatz took on The Daniel Lambert Challenge, a series of promotional and charity fundraising events of his own making, all based on Leicester’s famous historic fat man Daniel Lambert and the other characters, places and events from the show.
All profits from the Daniel Lambert Charity Challenge fundraising events went to the charity Bamboozle, who do amazing work for children with learning difficulties. Go to www.bamboozletheatre.co.uk for more info about what they do.
At the time of publishing this page, Skatz has already gone from weighing 17st 3lbs to 14st 3lbs in order to get fit enough to undertake the scale and scope of the Challenges and play his character in the show (no, that’s not Daniel Lambert!) so that part of The Challenge has already begun. (Latest update on 29th Sept: 12st 5lbs)
On this site you can find out about the show, the characters, more Leicester history, the Daniel Lambert Challenge and discuss the questions of historical accuracy and pop psychology raised by the play.

WOW this looks a good night out local history and a man who was a legend plus rock n roll yep i will be attending
I heard your song about the elephant man when I was very young… and once again when I was slightly less young but still pretty young.
Twice heard and it’s one of the commonest songs for my shower times that I love to sing!
Brilliant!
Hi, I heard your broadcast today on Radio Leicester as I was on my way home from work. I might not have paid it much heed but as I am a descendant of his I found it all very interesting. My Grandmothers maiden name was Lambert and she was written to by the Leicester museum informing her that she was infact a descendant of Mr Lambert. The larger ladies in our family do not always find it amusing to be reminded of this but none the less, it has been a source of some amusement.
Good luck with your project.
Thanks Janet. At least your family can be proud of all of the other Lambert qualities: generosity, helpfulness, wit, popularity. It’s about time Daniel was made a cultural icon for Leicestershire and had something other than his weight celebrated
Have read your posting re:- Daniel Lambert’s Trousers on Stamford Ancesstor Gateway Forum. Have also visited your web page regarding this subject matter. However may I suggest the word ANCESTORS be changed to word DECENDENTS on your Stamford Gateway Forum posting. As I believe Daniel Lambert may well have decendents alive and well. But certainly will not have any Ancestors.
Good point clemwalden. If he does have living ancestors I’d love to meet them. They’d be a bit dusty by now!
I’ve heard from some descendents. There are obviously no direct descendents as Daniel had no children we know of, but the name is certainly alive and well.
It is worth noting, for all his smugness, that the Walden chap cannot spell descendant, and is a little dubious abou the word ancestor. Nor can you, Andrew.
That’ll teach me to copy other’s spelling mistakes. I should know better and I feel suitably chastised and humbled. Whilst at the same time I’m feeling that I’ve just encountered two people who are even more pedantic than I am. ‘About’ has a ‘t’ on the end by the way.
Touche (I cannot find the accent)
In defence, I was very, very drnk.
My accent always goes when I have a drnk.
I shall attemt to be sobr at the keybrd in futre.
I think I may have gone too far…
We know Skatz from his great work with Bamboozle at Ashmount School. This sounds like a fantastic project – I will be sure to catch some of the events

Thanks Dave. I look forward to seeing you there. Rothley is your nearest I think. If it’s good food you’re after then The Old Barn Inn, Glooston is the one to go for. I think most of the pubs have good beer too.
